Exciting and engrossing -and not for musos only - This is a fantastic CD/DVD. The compositions are quite convoluted on the whole and are by turns exuberant and reflective. The melodies and harmonies are accessible and could be enjoyed by anyone whose tastes encompass more than bog standard pop music. The level of musicianship is jaw slackening - RGF in particular seems able to play whatever comes into his head, and the interplay beween all three musicians seems telepathic. This is especially clear on the DVD (which is the CD with camerawork.) Don t get the idea though, that this is all sterile showoffery, the music is the point here, not the extraordinary performances, which brilliantly serve the compositions.

Stunning - The music is great. The fact that you can watch the DVD and see the guy (well, all three) playing music with such amazing technique makes it even more amazing.

Best Bassist on any world anywhere! - J. Hellborg, G. Willis, S. Clarke, D. Holland et al could not begin to dream where Renaud Garcia-Fons journeys on his 5 string double-bass. He is quite easily the greatest bass player of them all and this breath-taking CD (and DVD) is a living testament to his out of this world skills. His bowing technique alone is both bewildering and awesome. The sounds and speeds he gets in the higher register are like those of a maestro violinist and the arrangements are a joy. If you don’t believe me, buy this CD/DVD. The 85 minute DVD alone is worth the asking price (and more!). If you are a bass player, please ensure have a loved one close by to console you. If you want (need) to listen to Renaud in a larger group setting, get hold of a copy of Oriental Bass. Oh, and the guitarist and percussionist are also wonders to behold. PS: If you’re of the opinion that Jaco was the greatest bassist of all time, think again!

Great music--great musicians! - It must be hard to be a virtuoso (Renaud Garcia being dubbed the Paganini of double bass) and trying to be a good composer as well...the result could be a live album with a thousand notes per second. The trio (flamenco guitar/assorted percussions/bass) keeps it cool and (even better) melodious, so the fireworks are kept in check (but they are there!)and the sounds are subtle and functional. Sometimes the sounds are flamenco, sometimes more Eastern, sometimes with hints of Latin. You almost don t notice the presence of an audience (applause is very low in the mix), but that only adds to the concentration and the perfection of the music.
